Volunteer

The El Cajon Police Department encourages the use of civilian volunteers. The department currently has over 50 volunteers and uses volunteers in the following areas:

Animal Control
Work at the animal shelter in the maintenance of the animals being held by the city. Includes exercising the dogs.

Crime Analysis
Clerical duties, filing, case logging and data entry from qualified data entry volunteers.

Investigations
Clerical duties, filing etc.

RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol)
Must be 50 years or older
Be able to do Patrol Duties at least 6 hours a week.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • YANA (You Are Not Alone) Program
  • Vacation Home Checks
  • Handicapped Violations
  • Traffic Control
  • Special Events

Training will be done by the individual departments. RSVP members will be trained by other RSVP patrol members and a RSVP academy.

All volunteers must fill out an application and a background check will be completed by the training department. Applications can be picked up during business hours at the Police Department.
